Long time no see

Back in business ! Sorry for the absence but it has been really busy the previous weeks, plus my scanner is acting really strange lately. I'm searching for a new one so if you can recommend me a good one, please comment!!

Now the good news:

I've been selected for a cartooncontest in Bruges: 'cartoonale Brugge'. The theme of this year's contest was 'Crisis'. 272 cartoonists of 32 different countries, 601 submissions. 50 cartoons were selected. Unfortunately I didn't win but I'm glad that my cartoon is amongst the 50 selected.


Crisis also present in Africa: " yours stocks are crashed"

The selected works are exhibited in the Culture Hall of the administrative centre “Brugse Vrije” in the centre of Bruges from 19 September to 14 October 2009. If you can't make it to Bruges, you can visit the online catalogue.

Lambermontmartre

Matson ( Mathias Van Den Berge ) & Jango Jim ( Dimitri Sakelaropolus ) will show and sell their works on the art market Lambermontmartre in Antwerp on sunday 26th of July (lambermontplaats). From prints to original drawings to painted objects. Their new comic book will also be shown!

Try to go to Lambermontmartre, it's a nice initiative of Mekanik: the greatest comic book store in Belgium! (Though 'het besloten land' in Leuven is also one of my favourites)

Havanananana

I'm spending a few days at my girlfriend's place where I found some pictures of her 'trip' (she did some volunteering work) to Cuba. I took some interesting people/backgrounds and made new compositions.

drawer's block

A drawing I made for an assignment in Sint Lucas but they didn't return it. Luckily Bent found it in pile of other drawings, paintings,... and gave it back to me. Thanks mate!
The drawing is a little applicable to my current situation. I'm a little bit in a drawer's block due to some preparation work for a job. Don't worry, more post will follow, off course!

Some cartoons I've made for an article of the newspaper of my housemate, Wouter Rombouts (soon to be a huge journalist/reporter, like Tintin).
Maybe it's usefull to know the subject of the article: the belgian minister of asylum and migration plans to accomodate 50 refugees in Belgium. Together with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) they are working on a resettlement program.
The first cartoon was used in the newspaper.

"Belgium? Don't you have something else?"


"Hi, I would like to order 50 refugees. How long will it take them to get here?"


"Belgium? Couldn't you draw a better ticket?"

Cartoons

Ik heb terug enkele cartoons gemaakt voor mijn huisgenoot Wouter Rombouts, die journalistiek studeert en samen met zijn klas een krant maakt. Deze keer geen digitale krant maar een gedrukte krant. Binnenkort als de krant uitgebracht wordt, zal ik de cartoon tonen welke in de krant staat (voorpagina!).

Hieronder staan 2 cartoons rond het thema temptation island (hier kan je de volledige recensie lezen). Deze cartoons werden dus niet gebruikt. Uiteindelijk heb ik cartoons gemaakt voor een ander artikel. Weldra op deze blog en in StrafBlad te zien. Hou de blog dus zeker in't oog!

Jason and the argonauts

Ik weet niet of iemand Ray Harryhausen kent, maar die man is echt belangrijk geweest in de filmwereld. Vooral in special effects was hij de grondlegger van de stop motion animatie.

Ik heb onlangs nog eens Jason and the argonauts (van 1963) gezien.
Toen kwam het idee om eens een vintage film poster maken met een beetje een 'grindhouse' look. Dit is het resultaat:


Trouwens een andere film met de stopmotion animatie van Harryhausen is 'clash of the titans'. Ook zeker eens zien. Momenteel zijn ze bezig met een remake...even ter info.

In één van mijn vorige posts had ik gezegd dat ik eens een update zou geven van enkele 'projecten' waaraan ik bezig ben. Hieronder is er één van. Ik heb voor een vriendin een geboortekaartje ontworpen. Vorige week is die kleine spruit geboren. Het is een zoontje geworden en hij heet Warre (ik wist da natuurlijk al maar mocht dat ni tegen iemand anders zegge é...den datum wist ik ook al maar dat heb ik niet tegen haar gezegd).
